Breathing, electricity, and the vast architecture of the air are engaged in dialogue in Kimmo Pohjonen’s Hallowed Lungs – a work composed for accordion, organ and electronics.
The history of the instruments – the sanctity of the organ and the mundanity of the accordion – does not result in a contradiction in the composition but generates tension, thereby creating a new space. Hallowed Lungs sanctifies what once was excluded, and carries a hope to breathe fresh air and a dream of peace. The collaboration of the trio Pohjola, Helenius and Norvio began with Ultra Organ, which premiered in 2017, and continues with Hallowed Lungs.
