Carmina Burana is a collection of secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magical images. It was composed by Carl Orff in 1934 and 1935 to texts he selected from the manuscript collection called Carmina Burana. The work is in five sections, with several movements in each section. In total, the cantata has 25 musical parts. The work was premiered in Oper Frankfurt in 1937. The stage cantata became immediately very popular. The work kept gaining popularity and it quickly became the most popular musical show in Germany. After the Second World War, Carmina Burana kept gaining success, even to the extent that in the 1960s it became part of the international classical music repertoire.
