Mozart loved the organ, calling it the queen of the instruments. The spring season of organ music culminates in a concert where a large choir – comprised of ensembles from across the Helsinki metropolitan region – and soloists from the Sibelius Academy bring forth Mozart’s most beloved sacred work, the Requiem. Tomi Satomaa’s arrangement allows the great organ of Musiikkitalo to shine in its full orchestral splendour.
From the outset of the concert, the listener is tuned into a Mozartian atmosphere through a selection of his organ pieces and adaptations. The evening begins in sweet wistfulness with the first movement of Mozart’s 40th symphony, played four hands by Tomi Satomaa and Katariina Kopsa.
